How to make it

  • 1. Soak the rice for 3 days, draining out the old and adding fresh water every day.
  • 2. On the third day, dry the rice and then pound it into flour.
  • 3. Mix in the rest of the above ingredients with exception of poppy seeds and pistachios.
  • 4. Mix in also 3 tblsps. Ghee along with enough milk to form a stiff dough.
  • 5. Form the dough into 2 to 3 balls and put in a steel vessel.
  • 6. Cover with a soft cloth and set aside for 3 days.
  • 7. On the fourth day, pound each ball till it becomes soft.
  • 8. If it still remains dry add a small ripe plantain while pounding.
  • 9. On a tbali spread both poppy seeds and pistachios.
  • 10. Take small pieces of the dough and shape each piece into a puri.
  • 11. Press each puri on one side on the poppy seed mixture and deep fry to a golden colour.
