How to make it

  • Combine butter and oil in large skillet and cook onion, carrot and bay leaf in butter.
  • Add bacon and sausage and cook until browned stirring frequently.
  • Drain half the can of tomatoes and add them to the pan.
  • Season with salt and pepper then simmer 30 minutes over a low heat adding stock gradually.
  • Cook penne in boiling lightly salted water until just done then drain well.
  • Add marjoram to sauce and toss together with cooked penne.
