Cilantro Calling All Gardeners

I guess I am confused on how to grow this. Is it ok to do in a pot?

Do you trim off the leaves and new ones grow in their place or do you have to reseed it if you want a continual plant?

I tried growing some this spring. It was pathetic. Not only does it go to seed too quickly this batch had almost no flavor. Not sure whats up. I've been successful with it in the past. But yes it always does go to seed too quickly.
