Trouble with scabs or hot spots?

One of my many cats has always had trouble with "hot spots" and was always chewing at himself and making scabs. His beautiful fur simply disappeared in places. I knew he need prednisone, but I'd been through that before, and hated to go that route again. Then I heard of something else. Coconut Oil!! I got it in the vitamin section at Wal-Mart. It's worked wonders. I just melt it in a metal measuring cup in hot water from the tap, and give him 1 tsp every day or so and he's all cleared up! I also rubbed some on his scabs in the beginning (it will melt in your hand okay) and they healed right up. I rub it on my other cats that might have a scab show up, too. It doesn't hurt them one bit. His fur is gorgeous again.
Oh...I use a medicine dropper like you use for babies or children that holds a teaspoon to give it to him. Just thought I'd pass this along to you all. It sure has helped me.
