Cooking oil

Is there a difference in what oil to use for cooking? Ive heard that olive oil is supposed to be good for you compared to regular veg oil. Can olive oil be used instead of corn, veg oil? Is there a difference between regular olive oil, virgin and extra vergin?

Hi, Hogwart! Saw your question and thought I'd let you know, olive oil is better for you than vegetable or canola oil. It can be used for nearly anything and you can use the "less fancy" type (regular) for cooking at higher temps and the good stuff (high quality - high $$$) for dressing salads or using in recipes where the flavor will really come through. For baking though, olive oil does not always effectively replace vegetable oil. Some experimentation or additional research may be required, or you can just use vegetable oil!
