sons girlfriend is romanian

My sons girlfriend was born in romania but was adopted by us citizen when she was just a few months old. she is a very picky eater. I would love to make her a romanian dinner, but don't know where to start. I don't know if she has had romanian food before. I would just want to introduce her to her heritage food. Any suggestions? Thanks

I think it is better to start with something easy, simple, especially if she is a picky eater ( usually Romanians cook with a lot of vegetables and a lot of pork - and if she doesn't like this - you are in trouble, cooking Romanian food also takes a lot of time.. :) ) I would suggest something like a simple polenta served with butter and feta cheese on top and sour cream on the side. Maybe some grilled chicken with garlic and parsley sauce - so just grill the chicken as you would do normally, seasoning only with salt and pepper. Separately dice 3-4 garlic cloves with 1 cup parsley and salt. Add either yogurt or even just a dash of clear broth and serve it as the sauce for the chicken. Romanians love garlic, onions and also sour cream, cottage cheese. For desert, you can make crepes with just a simple strawberry jam. This would be a typical meal for us that I remember my mom preparing ( I am also doing this today). I will let you know if I can think of more adaptable recipes.

elgab89 thank you so much. i will cook that in the near future for her. I know she likes chicken. I am getting her to try new stuff and I think her mom is a bit jealous. LOL. The rule in my house is you need to try it, you don't have to like it but you do have to try it. I would not have my kids or husband try anything I wouldnt. The reciepe you layed out sounds great. I am a big fan of crepes also. Again thank you. I will let you know how she liked it.
