Ham & Noodle Stovetop Casserole, Pennsylvania Dutch Style Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 lb cooked ham, cubed (about 2 c) .
  • 8 oz extra wide egg noodles .
  • 1/8 tsp salt .
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme .
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil .
  • 2 c shredded extra-sharp cheddar cheese .
  • 1/8 tsp white pepper .
  • 1/2 c red onions, sliced .
  • 1 (10 3/4 oz) can cream of mushroom soup (Campbell's) .
  • 1/4 c milk

Directions
  • Step #1 Cook the noodles according to the package directions.
  • Step #2 Drain & slightly butter.
  • Step #3 Meanwhile, heat oil in a 4 quart saucepan over medium-high heat.
  • Step #4 Add onion & saute for 1 min.
  • Step #5 Add ham & cook for about 15 mins, until the onion is tender.
  • Step #6 (Stirring every once in awhile.
  • Step #7 ).
  • Step #8 Stir in the soup & the milk.
  • Step #9 Reduce the heat to medium-low.
  • Step #10 Cook & stir for 5 more mins.
  • Step #11 Add the cheese & stir until it melts.
  • Step #12 Gently mix in the noodles & cook just until heated through.
