Crispy Barbequed Tofu Slices Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 tbsp barbeque sauce
  • 1 c barbeque sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 c all-purpose flour
  • 1 (16 oz) package extra firm tofu
  • 3 tbsps olive oil
  • 1 egg white

Directions
  • Step #1 Drain tofu, & slice into strips.
  • Step #2 Place in a plastic bag or container, & freeze overnight.
  • Step #3 This will give the tofu a meatier texture.
  • Step #4 Thaw tofu strips, & blot with paper towels to dry.
  • Step #5 Heat olive oil in a large skillet over med-heat/flame.
  • Step #6 In a small bowl, whisk together the egg white & 1 tbsp of barbeque sauce.
  • Step #7 Dip tofu slices into the egg mixture, then fry in the hot oil for about 1 min on each side, until golden brown.
  • Step #8 Just fry enough at one time so they are not crowded.
  • Step #9 Remove from the oil to paper towels to drain & cool.
  • Step #10 Preheat the oven's broiler.
  • Step #11 Brush tofu slices with extra barbeque sauce, & allow to marinate while the broiler heats up.
  • Step #12 Arrange them on a broiler pan, or wire rack set over a cookie sheet for best results.
  • Step #13 Position the oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source.
  • Step #14 Broil for 5 mins on each side, or until browned & crisp, watching closely so as not to burn them.
  • Step #15 Serve warm with the remaining barbeque sauce for dipping.
