Steak Teri-yaki Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 tsp sugar .
  • 1 piece eye steak fillets, about 1 inch thick .
  • 2 tbsps mirin .
  • 1 tbsp sake .
  • salt .
  • 2 tbsps soy sauce .
  • 1-2 onion, sliced into rings .
  • 2 tbsps oil, divided .
  • steamed rice, to serve

Directions
  • Step #1 Lightly salt the steak & set aside for 10 mins.
  • Step #2 Fry the onions in 1 tbsp of the oil in frying pan; remove & set aside, keeping warm.
  • Step #3 Add rest of the oil to pan & heat.
  • Step #4 Pat the meat dry with paper towels & add to pan.
  • Step #5 Cook til medium rare, about 2 mins each side; there should be pink in the middle.
  • Step #6 Remove from pan & set aside, keeping warm.
  • Step #7 Reduce heat to low, add sake to pan & let bubble for 30 seconds, then add mirin, sugar & soy.
  • Step #8 Stir well & let simmer for about a min.
  • Step #9 Slice meat thinly & arrange on top of rice with onions; spoon sauce over.
