Fruit Tzimmes Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 tsp salt .
  • 1 c water .
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon .
  • 2 tbsps flour .
  • 1/2 c brown rice .
  • 4 tbsps honey .
  • 2 tbsps butter .
  • 2 c boiling water .
  • Thickener .
  • 1/2 lb mixed dried fruit (prunes, peaches, pears apricots, raisins)

Directions
  • Step #1 Wash fruit in hot water; drain well.
  • Step #2 Combine fruit with rice, honey, seasonings & water.
  • Step #3 Bring to a boil, then reduce heat & let simmer slowly until the rice is tender (about 20 mins).
  • Step #4 If necessary, add a little water.
  • Step #5 Heat flour over med-heat/flame in a small skillet until light brown, stirring constantly to prevent burning.
  • Step #6 Stir in butter.
  • Step #7 Slowly add water, stirring constantly.
  • Step #8 When smooth & thick, add to fruit mixture.
  • Step #9 Cook until the fruit liquid has thickened.
  • Step #10 Transfer to a casserole; brown lightly under the broiler flame for a few mins.
  • Step #11 Serve hot as a dessert -- we serve it as a side dish with meat & poultry, also.
