Ingredients
1/2 tsp salt
3 c thinly sliced onion
1/4 c sliced pitted dates
4 oz sliced Brie or Camembert cheese
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
2 tsps sugar
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tsps finely sliced fresh rosemary
2 tsps balsamic vinegar
1 garlic clove, minced
24 (1/2-inch-thick) slices diagonally cut French bread baguette (about 12 oz)
1 tsp butter
Directions
Step #1 Preheat broiler.
Step #2 Arrange bread in a single layer on a baking sheet.
Step #3 Broil 2 mins on each side or until toasted.
Step #4 Lower oven temperature to 300°.
Step #5 Melt butter In a large-ish nonstick skillet over med-heat/flame.
Step #6 Add onion & next 4 ingredients (through garlic); cook 10 mins or until onion is translucent, stirring frequently.
Step #7 Increase the heat to medium-high; sauté 4 mins or until onion begins to brown.
Step #8 Add sugar; sauté 2 mins.
Step #9 Stir in vinegar & Worcestershire; remove this from heat.
Step #10 Add dates & cheese; stir until mixd.
Step #11 Top each toast with about 2 tsps onion mixture.
Step #12 Bake at 300° for 4 mins or until cheese melts.
