Cherry-chocolate Scones Recipe

Ingredients
  • 4 oz milk chocolate, cut into 1/2-inch chunks (about 1/2 c)
  • 1/4 c sugar
  • 1/2 c sliced pecans
  • 1/2 c (1/4 lb.) cold butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 c all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 c half-and-half (light cream)
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 c pitted dried cherries

Directions
  • Step #1 In a bowl or a food processor/blender, mix flour, baking powder, sugar, & salt.
  • Step #2 Cut butter into chunks & add to flour mixture.
  • Step #3 Cut in with a pastry mixer or pulse until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Step #4 In a small bowl, whisk together half-and-half & egg.
  • Step #5 Reserve 2 tbsps half-and-half mixture; add in the remaining to flour mixture along with chocolate, nuts, & cherries.
  • Step #6 Stir with a fork just until evenly moistened.
  • Step #7 Scrape dough onto a floured surface and, with lightly floured hands, squeeze dough together into a ball.
  • Step #8 Pat dough out into a 7-inch round about 1 3/4 inches thick.
  • Step #9 Cut into eight equal wedges.
  • Step #10 Place wedges 2 inches apart on a buttered or cooking parchment-lined 12- by 15-inch baking sheet.
  • Step #11 Brush tops of wedges lightly with reserved half-and-half mixture (discard any remaining).
  • Step #12 Bake scones in a 350° regular or convection oven until tops are browned, about 25 mins.
  • Step #13 Let cool about 10 mins on baking sheet, then serve warm or let cool completely.
