Double Orange Scones Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/3 c milk
  • Additional sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsps baking powder
  • 1/2 c sliced mandarin oranges, well drained
  • 1 egg
  • ORANGE BUTTER:
  • 2 tbsps orange marmalade
  • 2 tsps grated orange peel
  • 1 c all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 c cold butter
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 c whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 c butter, softened
  • 3 tbsps sugar

Directions
  • Step #1 In a large bowl, sugar, mix the flours, baking powder, orange peel & salt.
  • Step #2 Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Step #3 In a bowl, whisk milk & egg.
  • Step #4 Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened.
  • Step #5 Stir in oranges.
  • Step #6 Turn onto a floured surface; knead 10 times.
  • Step #7 Pat into a 6-in.
  • Step #8 circle.
  • Step #9 Sprinkle top with extra sugar.
  • Step #10 Cut into eight wedges.
  • Step #11 Separate wedges & place on a greased baking sheet.
  • Step #12 Bake at 400F degrees F for 15-20 mins or until golden brown.
  • Step #13 Meanwhile, in a small mixing bowl, beat butter & marmalade until fluffy.
  • Step #14 Serve with warm scones.
