Chocolate Malt Bars Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 (1 oz) square unsweetened chocolate, sliced
  • 1/4 c chocolate malt powder
  • 2 tbsps butter
  • 1 c all-purpose flour
  • 1 c confectioners' sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tbsps heavy cream
  •  
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c chocolate malt powder
  • 3/4 c white sugar
  • 1/2 c shortening

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Step #2 Grease an 8x8 inch baking pan.
  • Step #3 In a bowl over a pan of simmering water, melt the unsweetened chocolate, or in the microwave, stirring every once in awhile until smooth.
  • Step #4 Set aside to cool.
  • Step #5 In a medium bowl, cream together the shortening & white sugar until light & fluffy.
  • Step #6 Beat in the eggs, one at a time then stir in the the vanilla.
  • Step #7 Mix in the melted chocolate Combine the flour, 1/2 c chocolate malt powder, baking powder & salt; stir in theto the chocolate mixture.
  • Step #8 Spread evenly into the prepared pan.
  • Step #9 Bake for 20 to 25 mins in the preheated oven, until set.
  • Step #10 Let bars cool in the pan before frosting.
  • Step #11 To make frosting, cream together the butter, 1/4 c of malt powder & salt.
  • Step #12 Gradually beat in the confectioners' sugar & heavy cream until smooth & spreadable.
  • Step #13 Spread over cooled bars before cutting into squares.
