Fried Mozarella Wedges W/ Homemade Marinara Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp sugar (or to taste) .
  • 1/2 c onions, sliced .
  • 1 tsp italian seasoning .
  • 1 (16 oz) package mozzarella cheese .
  • Wedges .
  • Sauce .
  • 1 tsp Italian spices .
  • 1 tbsp parmesan cheese, grated .
  • 1/4 c water .
  • 1 1/2 tsps dried basil .
  • 1/3 c cornstarch .
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional) .
  • 1 (14 1/2 oz) can sliced tomatoes .
  • 2/3 c whole wheat flour .
  • 1 1/2 c Italian breadcrumbs .
  • 1 (14 1/2 oz) can crushed tomatoes .
  • 1/2 tsp garlic salt .
  • 1/3 c egg whites, beaten

Directions
  • Step #1 Saute onions in saucepan (do not brown).
  • Step #2 Add liquid drained from sliced tomatoes.
  • Step #3 Add basil, Italian seasoning, sugar & red pepper.
  • Step #4 Simmer 30 mins or until liquid is reduced by half.
  • Step #5 Remove from heat & set aside.
  • Step #6 Cut cheese into thick slices & cut diagonally triangles.
  • Step #7 Beat egg whites with water & set aside.
  • Step #8 Mix bread crumbs, garlic salt, & Italian seasonings; set aside.
  • Step #9 Blend flour with corn starch; set aside.
  • Step #10 Heat oil for deep frying to 360 degrees.
  • Step #11 Dip cheese in flour, then in egg, then coat with bread crumbs.
  • Step #12 Place in hot oil & fry a few seconds until golden.
  • Step #13 Remove from oil & drain.
  • Step #14 Add all tomatoes to saucepan & cook 1-2 mins or until heated.
  • Step #15 Pour marinara into dipping bowl & top this with parmesan.
