Ingredients
  • 3 tbsps pecans, coarsely sliced (or other nut of your choice) .
  • 1 tbsp baking powder .
  • 1 large egg .
  • 1 dash of freshly grated nutmeg .
  • Scones .
  • 1/2 tsp salt .
  • 3 tbsps sugar .
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon .
  • 6 tbsps butter, cut up into small pieces .
  • 2 c unbleached flour .
  • 1/2 c half-and-half or whole milk .
  • Spiced Sugar-Nut Mixture .
  • 3 tbsps packed brown sugar

Directions
  • Step #1 SCONES: Preheat oven to 425F degrees.
  • Step #2 Combine the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  • Step #3 Cut in the butter using a pastry mixer until you have coarse crumbs.
  • Step #4 In a small bowl, whisk together the egg & half & half.
  • Step #5 Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture & stir with a fork [[just]] until ingredients are moistened & hold together.
  • Step #6 Gather dough into a ball & knead several times on a floured surface.
  • Step #7 Pat the ball into an 8 inch round.
  • Step #8 SUGAR-NUT MIXTURE: Combine the ingredients in a small bowl.
  • Step #9 Yield 1/4 c.
  • Step #10 Sprinkle top dough round with the sugar-nut topping.
  • Step #11 Cut into 8 wedges.
  • Step #12 Place the wedges slightly apart on an ungreased parchment lined baking sheet.
  • Step #13 Bake the scones until golden brown, about 12 mins.
