Ingredients
1 tsp cornstarch .
1/2 tsp vanilla, divided .
1 (3 oz) package cream cheese, softened .
1 c frozen dark sweet cherries, thawed (reserve juice) .
3 tbsps powdered sugar .
2 frozen puff pastry shells .
1 tbsp granulated sugar .
2 tbsps whole milk .
1/8 tsp almond extract .
2 tbsps red wine or water
Directions
Step #1 Preheat oven to 400F degrees.
Step #2 Place frozen puff pastry shells on a nonstick baking sheet.
Step #3 Bake 22 to 27 mins or until golden brown & puffed.
Step #4 Cool completely.
Step #5 Use a fork to remove center of pastry.
Step #6 (Reserve round piece to use for garnish, if desired.
Step #7 ).
Step #8 Meanwhile, wine & cornstarch in a small saucepan, mix cherry juice, sugar, & whisk until cornstarch has dissolved completely.
Step #9 Place over med-heat/flame, bring to a boil & continue boiling 1 min, stirring constantly.
Step #10 Ad cherries, & cook 30 seconds, stir carefully to coat cherries thoroughly, stirring constantly.
Step #11 Remove from heat, add 1/4 tsp vanilla & almond extract, & cool completely.
Step #12 Combine cream cheese, milk, & powdered sugar in a small mixing bowl with electric mixer on lowish speed; mix until smooth.
Step #13 Add remaining 1/4 tsp vanilla, & beat until well mixed.
Step #14 Spoon equal amounts into bottom of shells & spoon black cherries on top, allowing them to cascade down.
Step #15 Add pastry round, if desired.
