Cherry Angel Food Cake Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract
  • 3/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 c white sugar
  • 1 c sifted cake flour
  • 1/3 c maraschino cherries, drained & sliced
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 c egg whites

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 325F degrees F (165 degrees C).
  • Step #2 Make sure your 10 inch tube pan is clean & dry.
  • Step #3 Sift flour three times & set aside.
  • Step #4 In a large glass or metal mixing bowl, beat egg whites with salt & cream of tartar until foamy.
  • Step #5 Gradually add sugar, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form.
  • Step #6 Blend in vanilla & almond extract.
  • Step #7 Fold the flour into the whites until no streaks remain.
  • Step #8 Pour half of the batter into pan.
  • Step #9 Sprinkle top with half of the cherries.
  • Step #10 Fill pan with remaining batter & top this with remaining cherries.
  • Step #11 Bake in the preheated oven for 50 mins.
  • Step #12 Invert pan & allow to hang until cake cools.
