Cincinnati Style Chili Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 2 tbsps red wine vinegar
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can sliced tomatoes
  • 2 tbsps chili powder
  • 1 c tomato sauce
  • 8 oz spaghetti
  • 1 c water
  • 1 tsp hot pepper sauce
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 c shredded Cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 1 (12 oz) package frozen burger-style crumbles
  • 1 c kidney beans, drained & rinsed
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp ground allspice
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder

Directions
  • Step #1 Heat olive oil in a large frying pan.
  • Step #2 Saute onion until tender.
  • Step #3 Mix in burger-style crumbles & garlic; cook this until the crumbles have browned.
  • Step #4 Stir in tomato sauce, sliced tomatoes, chili powder, paprika, cinnamon, light brown sugar, water, vinegar, allspice, cocoa, & hot sauce.
  • Step #5 Heat over medium-high heat until the mixture begins to boil.
  • Step #6 Reduce heat to low, cover, & let simmer 15 to 20 mins until sauce thickens.
  • Step #7 While the sauce is thickening, bring a large pot of salted water to boil; place spaghetti in the water & bring it to a boil again.
  • Step #8 Cook until al dente.
  • Step #9 Drain well.
  • Step #10 Stir beans into the chili & mix lightly.
  • Step #11 Spoon cooked spaghetti into bowls & top this with chili.
  • Step #12 Sprinkle top with cheese if desired.
