Chocolate Peppermint Pinwheels Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 (1 oz) square unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp peppermint extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 c shortening
  • 1 1/4 c all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 c sugar

Directions
  • Step #1 In a mixing bowl, cream shortening & sugar.
  • Step #2 Add egg, milk & extract; mix well.
  • Step #3 Combine the flour, salt & baking powder; slowly add to creamed mixture.
  • Step #4 Divide dough in half.
  • Step #5 Add chocolate to one portion; mix well.
  • Step #6 Roll each portion between waxed paper into a rectangle about 1/2 in.
  • Step #7 thick.
  • Step #8 Remove top sheet of waxed paper; place plain dough over chocolate dough.
  • Step #9 Roll up jelly-roll style, starting with a long side.
  • Step #10 Wrap in plastic warp; put in the fridge for 2 hrs or until firm.
  • Step #11 Unwrap dough & cut into 1/4-in.
  • Step #12 slices.
  • Step #13 Place 2 in.
  • Step #14 apart on greased baking sheets.
  • Step #15 Bake at 375 degrees F for 8-10 mins or until lightly browned.
  • Step #16 Remove to wire racks to cool.
