Old Fashioned Southern Cornbread Dressing Recipe

Ingredients
  • 4 1/2 c chicken broth .
  • 2 c crumbled biscuits .
  • 3 eggs, lightly beaten .
  • 1 (10 3/4 oz) can cream of chicken soup .
  • 2 c sliced onions .
  • 1 tbsp poultry seasoning .
  • 1 (4 lb) chickens .
  • 1/2 c butter .
  • 7 c crumbled cornbread .
  • 2 c sliced celery .
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions
  • Step #1 Put chicken in a dutch oven.
  • Step #2 Cover up with water.
  • Step #3 Bring to a boil & cook over med-heat/flame.
  • Step #4 Reduce heat to a simmer & cook for 45 mins or until the chicken is tender.
  • Step #5 Remove chicken from heat, reserving the broth.
  • Step #6 Let cool & debone the chicken.
  • Step #7 Cut chicken into bite size pieces.
  • Step #8 Discard sking & bones.
  • Step #9 Metlt butter in a skillet over med-heat/flame on stovetp.
  • Step #10 Add onion & celery & cook about 6 mins until veggies are tender.
  • Step #11 Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Step #12 Lightly grease a 13-x-9-x-2-inch baking dish; set aside.
  • Step #13 In a large bowl, cornbread, mix chicken, onion-and-celery mixture, & remaining ingredients.
  • Step #14 Spoon mixture into prepared baking dish.
  • Step #15 Bake, uncovered, for 1 hr, or until set.
