Directions

Step #1 Soak 1/3 c of split peas & 1/2 c of lentils overnight.
Step #2 In a 5 quart kettle, brown 1 lb.
Step #3 sliced meat & drain.
Step #4 Add remaining ingredients, plus the split peas & lentils (except the pasta) plus 12 c of water.
Step #5 Heat to a boil, stirring every once in awhile.
Step #6 Reduce heat to a simmer for 30 mins.
Step #7 Add pasta & let simmer for 15 mins more.
Step #8 Note: This recipe freezes well using quart sized jars (don't forget to leave enough room for expansion.
Step #9 When reheating add a little water.
Step #10 This is a very hearty soup.
