Ingredients
1 egg, lightly beaten .
Crust .
2 tbsps heavy whipping cream .
Topping .
2/3 c honey (flavor of choice) .
1/4 tsp salt .
3/4 c cold butter .
1/2 c packed brown sugar .
4 c nuts, shelled & toasted, of your choice (read intro) .
1/2 tsp baking powder .
6 tbsps butter, cubed .
1/2 tsp salt .
1/2 c sugar .
2 1/3 c unbleached white flour
Directions
Step #1 CRUST: Line a 13x9x2 inch aluminum baking pan with parchment paper or foil wrap & grease lightly with butter.
Step #2 In a mixing bowl mix the flour, sugar, baking powder & salt.
Step #3 Cut in butter using a pastry mixer until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Step #4 Stir in egg.
Step #5 Note: the mixture will be dry.
Step #6 Press firmly into prepared pan.
Step #7 Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 mins or until edges are golden brown.
Step #8 Set aside to cool on wire rack.
Step #9 TOPPING: Bring honey, brown sugar & salt to a boil In a large-ish heavy saucepan over med-heat/flame.
Step #10 Stir until brown sugar is dissolved.
Step #11 Boil for 2 mins *without* stirring.
Step #12 BE CAREFUL NOT TO BURN YOURSELF during this process! Add butter & whipping cream to honey mixture.
Step #13 Bring to boil; cook & stir 1 min.
Step #14 Be careful not to scorch! Remove pan from heat & stir in the the nuts.
Step #15 Spread mixture over prepared crust.
Step #16 Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 mins or until top is bubbly.
Step #17 Remove from oven & cool completely on wire rack.
Step #18 Use the foil wrap or parchment paper to lift the mixture out of the pan.
Step #19 Cut into bars.
