Checkerboard Square Clam Crunch Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 ts Vanilla extract
  • 1 pk DUNCAN HINES Moist Deluxe Fudge Marble Cake Mix
  • 1 Egg, lightly beaten
  • 3/4 c PLUS
  • 1 tb Butter or margarine, softened & divided
  • 2 Egg yolks

Directions
  • Step #1 1.
  • Step #2 mix 3/4 c butter, egg yolks & vanilla extract in large bowl.
  • Step #3 Beat at lowish speed with electric mixer until mixed.
  • Step #4 Set aside cocoa packet from Mix.
  • Step #5 slowly add cake mix.
  • Step #6 mix well.
  • Step #7 2.
  • Step #8 Divide dough in half.
  • Step #9 Add cocoa packet & remaining 1 tbsp butter to half the dough.
  • Step #10 Knead until well mixed & chocolate colored.
  • Step #11 3.
  • Step #12 Roll out yellow dough between two pieces of waxed paper into a 6" square.
  • Step #13 Repeat with chocolate dough.
  • Step #14 Remove top pieces of waxed paper from yellow & chocolate doughs.
  • Step #15 Cut each square into twelve 1/2" wide strips.
  • Step #16 4.
  • Step #17 To assemble, place one strip chocolate dough on plastic wrap.
  • Step #18 Brush edge with beaten egg.
  • Step #19 PLace one strip yellow dough next to chocolate dough.
  • Step #20 Brush edge with egg.
  • Step #21 Repeat with a second chocolate strip, egg & a second yellow strip to make first row.
  • Step #22 Brush top of row with egg.
  • Step #23 Prepare second row by stacking strips on first row, alternating yellow over chocolate strips.
  • Step #24 Brush edge & top of each strip with egg.
  • Step #25 Repeat for third row to complete one checkerboard bar.
  • Step #26 Repeat with remaining strips to make second bar.
  • Step #27 Cover with plastic wrap.
  • Step #28 put in the fridge 1 hr or until firm enough to slice.
  • Step #29 5.
  • Step #30 preheat your trusty oven to 350'F.
  • Step #31 Grease baking sheets.
  • Step #32 6.
  • Step #33 Cut checkerboard bars into 1/4" slices.
  • Step #34 Place 2" apart on greased baking sheets.
  • Step #35 bake this at 350'F.
  • Step #36 for 7-9 mins or until edges are light golden brown.
  • Step #37 Cool 1 min on baking sheets.
  • Step #38 Remove to cooling racks.
  • Step #39 Cool completely.
  • Step #40 store this in airtight containers.
  • Step #41 Makes 4 dozen cookies.
