How to make it

  • Place apple and dates in a bowl. Sprinkle with baking soda. Add water and leave to sit for a short time, until cooled.
  • Cream butter and sugar.
  • Add egg and vanilla essence.
  • Mix all ingredients together, including flour.
  • Place into cake tin. Bake at 140-150 C for 45-60 minutes.
  • Heat topping ingredients together until mixed and place topping on cake when 3/4 cooked.
  • Bake an extra 5-10 minutes.
