How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 375F.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet set over medium-high heat.
  • Brown beef and drain off any fat and add onion.
  • Sprinkle with flour; stir to combine.
  • Add chili sauce, beef broth, thyme, and celery seed.
  • Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes or until thickened. Remove skillet from heat.
  • Stir in carrots peas and corn; reserve.
  • Meanwhile, cook potatoes in a large pot of boiling, salted water until fork tender.
  • Drain well and whip potatoes with an electric mixer. Gradually drizzle in the milk and butter, whipping the potatoes until fluffy.
  • Season, to taste, with salt and pepper.
  • Fill the piecrust with the meat mixture. Top with the mashed potatoes, using the back of a spoon to swirl into mounds.
  • Bake on a baking sheet, on the lowest oven rack for 45 minutes.
