Easy Chocolate Cherry Cake Recipe

Ingredients

2 (21-oz) cans cherry pie filling

1 cup semisweet chocolate morsels

¼ cup sugar

1 box chocolate fudge cake mix

1 cup finely chopped pecans

¾ cup butter, cut into teaspoon-size pats

Fresh whipped cream (optional) (I used Redi-Whip)

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°. Lightly grease a 13x9x2” baking dish.

Spread cherry pie filling over bottom of prepared baking dish.

Sprinkle evenly with chocolate morsels and sugar.

Spread dry cake mix over sugar, covering pie filling.

Sprinkle evenly with chopped pecans.

Place butter pats over cake mix, covering cake mix as evenly as possible.

Bake 1 hour; let cool 30 minutes before serving.

Serve with whipped cream, if desired.

I tried this recipe over the weekend and wonder if I happened to do something wrong. This recipe is super easy, so I don't know how I could goof it up ...but this was not as I expected. The cake tasted really bitter for some reason. Unfortunately, I had to throw it away. Everyone I served it to actually did roll their eyes... just not in a good way! LOL! :o) ...Any ideas as to why mine turned out this way?
