How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Lightly grease a 13x9x2” baking dish.
  • Spread cherry pie filling over bottom of prepared baking dish.
  • Sprinkle evenly with chocolate morsels and sugar.
  • Spread dry cake mix over sugar, covering pie filling.
  • Sprinkle evenly with chopped pecans.
  • Place butter pats over cake mix, covering cake mix as evenly as possible.
  • Bake 1 hour; let cool 30 minutes before serving.
  • Serve with whipped cream, if desired.

    I tried this recipe over the weekend and wonder if I happened to do something wrong. This recipe is super easy, so I don't know how I could goof it up ...but this was not as I expected. The cake tasted really bitter for some reason. Unfortunately, I had to throw it away. Everyone I served it to actually did roll their eyes... just not in a good way! LOL! :o) ...Any ideas as to why mine turned out this way?

    WOW! Talk about perfect timing. My hubby's
    b-day is Friday and he loves chocolate covered cherries. I think this will be the perfect cake for him this year! Thanks so much for posting.
