How to make it

  • cut the pork into 1 inch cubes and marinate in the soy sauce and cornstarch for 20 minutes.
  • Sauce: in a bowl combine sugar, ketchup, soy sauce, salt, pineapple juice, vinegar. set aside. In a separate bowl dissolve the cornstarch in the water.
  • Batter: combine flour and cornstarch. stir in egg white and oil. add as much of the warm water that is needed for form a thick batter that is neither too dry or too moist.
  • Dip the marinated pork cubes in the batter. Fry in batches until the pork is golden brown. remove and drain on paper towels.
  • To prepare the sweet and sour sauce, bring the sauce ingredient to a boil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped green pepper and pineapple. Bring to a boil again and thicken with cornstarch mixture. Check the sauce one more time and adjust seasonings. Serve over jasmine rice.

    Made this for dinner tonight and enjoyed the Chinise Resturant-like taste and texture. I did not have cubed pineapple and used crushed pineapple. It was not as sweet as it would have been with cubed so I added a dash of brown sugar to the sauce to sweeten it up a bit more. I also lightly sauteed the peppers before adding to the sauce. Husband loved it. Will make again. Thank you for this receipe
