How to make it

  • Peel, slice apples for pie
  • Mix together the sugar, flour, cinnmaon and nutmeg
  • Add apples and raisins and toss to mix
  • Squeeze on lemon juice with the zest and toss again
  • Place apples evenly into a 9 or 10 inch pie pastry lined pie plate
  • Add top crust and slash deeply in a few places
  • Brush with cream and sprinkle with some sugar and a bit of fresh grated nutmeg
  • Bake 425F for 15 minutes
  • Lower heat to 375 and bake 45 minutes more or until pie is golden and juices start to bubble up
  • Cool on rack; may serve warm, chilled or room temp
  • Note: if using pyrex, decrease the oven heat by 25 F for the oven temps listed with the recipe
  • Pie freezes well too

    I made this last night, it was just wonderful. I needed a basic foolproof recipe for me a beginning pie maker ( sorry but I used frozen pie crust! home made maybe next time )and I wanted say how delicous it was!
