Texas Style Sirloin Steak With Olive Relish Recipe

  • Relish:
  • 1 cup seeded, chopped tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup pitted, brine cured black olives
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 tsp. red wine vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. minced red onion
  • Steak:
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp. dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 1/2 pounds sirloin steak
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil

Directions
  1. For Relish:
  2. Combine tomatoes, olives, oil and red wine vinegar in a food processor. Pulse until coarsely chopped. Transfer relish to a small bowl and stir in red onion.
  3. For Steak:
  4. Stir together chili powder, brown sugar, salt and pepper in a small bowl. Rub the spice mixture all over the steak. Heat oil in a skillet over medium high heat. Add steak to the skillet and cook about 3 minutes per side for medium rare. Transfer steak to a plate and cover loosely with foil. Let steak stand 5 minutes.
  5. Slice steak against the grain and divide between plates. Spoon relish over steak and serve.
