From brinbrits 14 years agoIngredients
- Early in the afternoon the day before you need it, assemble the following: shopping list
- 1 8-ounce package of cream cheese shopping list
- 1 cup sugar shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla shopping list
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon shopping list
- 12 slices of day-old bread, I use Earth Grains San Francisco sourdough shopping list
- Filling: shopping list
- 12 eggs shopping list
- 2 cups milk shopping list
- 3 ounces cream cheese shopping list
- 1/2 cup sugar shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon salt shopping list
- Topping: shopping list
- 1/4 cup butter (melted and cooled) shopping list
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans shopping list
How to make it
- In a small mixing bowl, cream the cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon together. Spread this mixture on 6 slices bread. Cover with 6 more slices of bread, making sandwiches. Cut or tear the sandwiches into bite-size squares, and pile them into a 9 x 13-inch buttered casserole pan or one sprayed with Pam.
- Next beat eggs till light and fluffy. Add the milk, cream cheese, sugar, and salt and blend well. Pour over bread and cream cheese mixture in baking dish. Cover with foil or plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
- Next morning: Brush lightly with melted butter. Cover with chopped pecans and bake at 350°F for 1 hour. As an accompaniment, offer sweetened whipped cream or Kahlua sauce (see my other recipe for this), and/or powdered sugar.
