Weeknight chili

- 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey or mixture of both shopping list
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour shopping list
- 4 teaspoons chili powder shopping list
- 1 tablespoon crushed red pepper shopping list
- 1 tablespoon dried minced onion shopping list
- 1 tablespoon dried, minced garlic shopping list
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar shopping list
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin shopping list
- 2 teaspoons dried parsley shopping list
- 2 teaspoons salt shopping list
- 1 teaspoon dried basil shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper shopping list
- 1 can (14 ounces) diced tomatoes with green chiles, undrained shopping list
- 1 can (14 ounces) red kidney beans, rinsed and drained shopping list
- 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce shopping list
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded (optional) shopping list
How to make it
- Brown ground beef in large skillet, drain.
- Place beef and the rest of the ingredients into the crock pot. Give it a quick stir and cover. Cook on low for 4-6 hours or high 2-3 hours.
- For those with kids that are a little suspicious of beans, I used to pulse the beans in the blender and add it to the chili. It's also a good way to thicken it.
- Top each serving with a bit of the cheese.
