Ingredients

How to make it

  • Thaw the English peas for 2 min in the microwave or shell fresh peas (in which case make sure you have about 4 lbs to start with so that you will end up with 2 lbs of shelled peas).
  • In a small chopper chop peas (with green chillies) coarsely (be careful not to turn them into a paste). You'll have some peas crushed totally, some half and some may still be whole - that is okay.
  • In a large nonstick pan melt butter / oil and add sliced onion, cook until light brown, add ginger garlic paste and fry for another min or two.
  • Add sliced tomatoes and cook to a paste i.e. another 15 min or so. Add salt, red chillies, cumin, coriander powder and fry for 30 sec.
  • Add peas, mix well and cook on med low heat for 1-2 hours depending on preference and donness. I normally cook on low for 2 hours.
  • This is a dry curry, so do not add water. Sprinkle with cilantro and enjoy with naan and tomato chutney (that is what we did yesterday :)
