Ingredients

How to make it

  • Leave butter out overnight or soften in microwave on low for a minute. Chop the walnuts and set aside, ready to go. Butter the take-out tins. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Beat together butter, sugar, egg and first amount of vanilla in a bowl.
  • Add flour, soda, salt and oats, mixing well.
  • Divide dough in to rough quarters and pack in to greased take-out tins. Set aside.
  • Beat milk, cream cheese and second amount of vanilla together. Reserve 1/3 cup for icing.
  • Spread remainder over bottom layer. I jiggle the back of my wooden spoon or spatula to gently move the cream cheese dollop in to the corners.
  • Sprinkle nuts over top.
  • Bake in oven for 25 minutes until set. Frost while hot.
  • Start this icing as soon as the squares are in the oven.
  • Melt the reserved cream cheese mixture and chocolate chips in a small saucepan over low heat,
  • Add milk, one teaspoon at a time, until mixture will pour from a spoon in a drizzle.
  • Drizzle or spread icing over hot bars as soon as they come from the oven.
  • Cool.
  • Cut in to 72 squares.

I think this would be great to take out while I'm hiking in this frigid weather,to give me a boost of energy.

Thank-you for this very nice recipe.

    Kind Regards
