- cream of wheat (original) - 2 cups shopping list
- water - 4 1/2 cups shopping list
- Chopped onions - 1 cup shopping list
- jalapeno peppers - 1/2 (or as required) shopping list
- salt - 3/4 tsp shopping list
- oil - 2 tbsp shopping list
- mustard seeds (black if available) - 1/2 tsp shopping list
- dried split peas - 1 tsp shopping list
- Chopped cilantro - a handful shopping list
- juice of 1 lemon shopping list
How to make it
- Cut onions and Jalapeno in small pieces.
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Add mustard seeds, dried split peas and fry for 30 seconds.
- Add onions and jalapeno and fry for about 2 minutes.
- Pour water to this mixture and let it boil.
- Add salt and mix.
- Now add cream of wheat slowly while mixing gently at the same time. It is important to mix as you pour or lumps will form.
- Once all the water is absorbed, add lemon juice and cilantro.
- Mix gently and serve.
