How to make it

  • Heat saute pan to med
  • Add sauerkraut
  • Add mustard seeds and mix
  • Add beer and mix (I use a Pumkin Ale - Brooklyn Brewery makes a good one - Post Road Pumkin Ale)
  • Add cider and mix
  • Cover and let let simmer over medium heat for 15 minutes - stil occasionally
  • Add grilled sausages for last 5-10 minutes of cooking
  • Let all liquid burn offSlide fresh macintosh apples
  • Place sauerkraut with sausages onto serving platter
  • Add apple slices to serving platter
  • serve

    This sounds very nice, but I was rather expecting a recipe for a festive "saurkraut", not a serving suggestion!, personally I would "pop" the mustard seeds first, call me alt hergestellt, pardon me, old fashioned, this sounds very like a Berlin recipe, it puts me in mind of an old favourite, claim it as your own, belly pork, boiled, cooled, diced 1cm fry in dry pan till crisp, add lots of chopped parsley pour, fat and all over mashed potato, drink lots of pilsner with this for max effect, luxury version has Blutwurst added with pork!, drink even more pils, you can afford it!!
