How to make it

  • Soak lentils overnight if required.
  • To prepare dahl: put lentils in pan with 600ml/2 1/2 cups water and ginger, garlic, turmeric, chillies and salt.
  • Bring to boil and cook for about 30mins - or until lentils soft, then mash with back of spoon until soupy (I don't bother!)
  • To prepare tarka: heat oil and fry onion, onion seeds and mustard seeds, chilli and tomatoes for 2mins (or longer if you are me and forget)
  • Add the tarka to the dhal...garnish with coriander and HEY PRESTO!....Enjoy x
