How to make it

  • Bring 1 cup water, milk, and sugar to a boil, stir to dissolve. Boil 10 minutes, set aside.
  • Melt butter in a medium-size saucepan over medium-heat. Stir in cream of wheat, lightly brown, stirring constantlly.
  • Pour sugar-milk syrup into saucepan, stirring constantly till mixture boils, and liquids are absorbed. Remove from heat. Rest several minutes.
  • Quickly stir in cheese. Place in a serving platter and sprinkle with cinnamon. Serve immediately. This may be reheated in a non-stick pan, covered, over low heat stirring occasionally.
  • Variation: Roasted pine nuts may be sprinkled over it. Could decorate with halved walnuts all around edge of platter.
