How to make it

  • Open the can of white beans and drain well
  • Open the can of beans in tomato sauce
  • Open the can of tomatoes
  • Place the oil in a saucepan and put on a medium heat
  • Put in the ingredients marked * into the saucepan
  • When the mustard seeds start to to pop, add the onions, garlic and chillies
  • As the onions start to brown, add the chilli powder, and turmeric
  • Braise the chilli powder for about 2 to 3 minutes, stirring all the time (it must not catch on the saucepan)
  • Add the tomatoes and allow to cook for 3 to 5 minutes
  • Add beans, turn the heat down and cook for a further 15 mins - stir occassionally
  • Remove beans to a serving dish, sprinkle with chopped coriander
  • Can be refrigerated but tastes better hot or at room temperature for a barbecue side dish
