This recipe is one of my Grandmother's ... I like to make it in the crock pot

Ingredients
  • 1 Small bag dried black eyed peas
  • 1 pound bacon cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 cup instant rice (uncooked)
  • tabasco sauce to taste

Directions
  1. Rinse black eyed peas as directed
  2. Place first 4 ingredients in crockpot and add water to top of crockpot
  3. Set crockpot on medium setting and let it go for about 4 hours or until peas are tender-(check water level and add more water when needed )
  4. When black eyed peas are tender - turn off crockpot and stir in uncooked rice
  5. let stand for 30 min.
  6. Serve in a bowl with a dash or two of tabasco sauce and enjoy
