How to make it

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (180 degrees C)
  • Grease a 9 X 13 (3 L) baking dish
  • Combine the breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese in a small bowl for use later
  • Melt the butter in a medium saucepan, add the flour and cook over low heat, stirring constantly for 1 to 2 minutes
  • Whisk in the evaporated milk and salt to the heated mixture and bring to a boil
  • Lower the heat and cook for 5 minutes
  • Add 3 cups of grated Cheddar cheese to the mixture, stirring until melted
  • Stir the cheese mixture and cooked ground beef into the cooked macaroni
  • Pour the cheese, beef, macaroni mixture into the greased baking dish, spreading it out evenly
  • Sprinkle the remaining cup of grated Cheddar cheese over the top
  • Sprinkle the breadcrumb/Parmesan cheese mixture evenly over the top
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and bubbling
