Hot Cross Buns

- 3/4 cup milk shopping list
- 1/4 cup butter shopping list
- 3/4 cup sugar shopping list
- 2 eggs shopping list
- 4 tsp instant yeast shopping list
- 1/2 cup lukewarm water shopping list
- 4 cups flour shopping list
- 1 tsp cinnamon shopping list
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg shopping list
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves shopping list
- 1/2 cup currants shopping list
- vegetable oil shopping list
- 1 egg white shopping list
- 2 tbsp milk shopping list
- 1 cup icing sugar shopping list
How to make it
- Heat milk to scalding(just before boiling)..remove from heat and whisk in sugar,butter,salt.
- In 1 bowl lukewarm water and yeast..Add milk mixture and beaten eggs.
- In 2nd bowl mix flour ,currants(or raisins)and spices
- Combine both bowls and mix well
- add more flour if needed...Kneed the dough for 5 minutes
- Make the dough into a ball and roll lightly in flour.Place in a lightly oiled bowl..cover with plastic wrap and set in warm spot for 90 minutes.
- On a lightly floured surface cut dough in half then take each and roll into a 10"long piece...cut 1" of each piece and roll into a ball.place on non stick paper on a cooking sheet and cut a cross with a knife on each one...Cover with a towel and let rise for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 375*
- lightly brush each one with egg white mixture...Bake for 10 minutes,then brush again...bake another 8 minutes or until golden brown and puffy...
- Mix 2 tbsp of milk with icing sugar(mix in slowly)until a thick paste.Add to the cross lines on the buns.
- ..Let sit for 20 minutes...then eat...Enjoy
