Ingredients

How to make it

  • Cover with crackers, in a single layer, the bottom of your baking pan.
  • In a sauce pan over medium heat, nelt butter.
  • Add sugar and bring to boil stirring constantly.
  • Boil for 2 minutes.
  • Remove pan from heat and add the vanilla.
  • Pour mixture evenly over the crackers.
  • Sprinkle very lightly with a coarse salt.
  • Sprinkle with the nuts.
  • Bake at 350* for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • Immediately remove crackers from baking pan, cutting between crackers if necessary.
  • Cool on wire rack.
  • Store in an airtight container. Yeilds about 3 & 1/2 dozen crackers.
  • Footnotes
  • I don't always sprinkle the top of the crackers with coarse salt. It depends on how salty the nuts are.
  • I use roasted and salted nuts with these. It makes a salty sweet cracker.
  • I have used slmonds, pecans. macadamian nuts and peanuts with equally good results.
  • I have often wondered as I make them what would happen if I added garlic and onion salt then the nuts.
  • You could make a sweet cracker or a savory cracker with these.
  • You could also sprinkle the crackers with a pepper seasoning and add some heat to the flavor.
  • I have sprinkled the crackers with crushed cajun trail mix crackers and use that as a topping and that was awesome.
  • I think you are limited only by you own imagination.

Thank you for your kind words. They are great and so simple it's almost criminal. And you can change the toppings and make several different flavors. Glad you stopped in. Let me know the next time you're comin' and I'll put on the coffee.
