Slivered Almond or Toasted Pecan Crackers

- Enough club or other crackers to cover the bottom of a 15" x 10" x 1" baking pan. shopping list
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine shopping list
- 1/2 cup sugar shopping list
- 1 cup slivered or sliced almonds or nuts of your choice, but make sure they are chopped, sliced or slivered shopping list
How to make it
- Cover bottom of pan with foil.
- Cover with crackers, in a single layer, the bottom of your baking pan.
- In a sauce pan over medium heat, nelt butter.
- Add sugar and bring to boil stirring constantly.
- Boil for 2 minutes.
- Remove pan from heat and add the vanilla.
- Pour mixture evenly over the crackers.
- Sprinkle very lightly with a coarse salt.
- Sprinkle with the nuts.
- Bake at 350* for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
- Immediately remove crackers from baking pan, cutting between crackers if necessary.
- Cool on wire rack.
- Store in an airtight container. Yeilds about 3 & 1/2 dozen crackers.
- Footnotes
- I don't always sprinkle the top of the crackers with coarse salt. It depends on how salty the nuts are.
- I use roasted and salted nuts with these. It makes a salty sweet cracker.
- I have used slmonds, pecans. macadamian nuts and peanuts with equally good results.
- I have often wondered as I make them what would happen if I added garlic and onion salt then the nuts.
- You could make a sweet cracker or a savory cracker with these.
- You could also sprinkle the crackers with a pepper seasoning and add some heat to the flavor.
- I have sprinkled the crackers with crushed cajun trail mix crackers and use that as a topping and that was awesome.
- I think you are limited only by you own imagination.
