How to make it

  • Grease and Flour two 9" layer pans while preheating oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a LARGE bowl, cream the butter until smooth.
  • Add brown sugar and eggs, and beat with mixer until well blended.
  • Put water on the stove to boil (do not add yet).
  • Add vanilla and melted chocolate, mix.
  • Add baking soda and salt, mix.
  • Add 1/2 Cup cake flour and mix until smooth.
  • Add 1/4 Cup sour cream and mix until smooth.
  • Repeat until both ingredients have been added and mixed completely.
  • Add boiling water, and stir with a SPOON until blended.
  • Pour into layer pans and bake 30 minutes or until done.
  • For Ganache:
  • Pour chocolate into a mixing bowl.
  • Heat whipping cream slowly, stirring CONSTANTLY until it begins to boil.
  • Pour cream over chocolate and stir immediately until smooth.
  • Apply a light coat to cooled cake and refrigerate 15 minutes.
  • Apply remainder of ganache to cake as icing.
