Lynne's Retro Garlic Bread

- 3 tbs olive oil shopping list
- 3 tbs unsalted butter shopping list
- 1/4 cup water shopping list
- 5 large garlic cloves, minced shopping list
- 1 generous tsp dried basil shopping list
- 1 generous tsp dried oregano shopping list
- 1/4 tsp salt, or to taste shopping list
- fresh ground black pepper shopping list
- 1 large crusty baguette shopping list
- 1 tight-packed cup shredded Asiago or Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. In a small saucepan, combine all the ingredients except the bread and cheese, and set over medium-low heat. When the butter melts, cover the pan and cook for 10 minutes to soften the garlic. Take care not to brown it. Once the garlic is soft, uncover the pan and simmer until you hear the mixture sizzle. Pull pan off the heat.
- Split the bread horizontally. Spread with garlic mixture. Sprinkle each half with cheese. Bake for 15 minutes, or until cheese bubbles. Serve.
