How to make it

  • melt butter in large saucepan
  • remove pan from heat and mix in flour to smooth paste
  • slowly add milk heating gently add milk and heat until sauce starts to thicken
  • add salt, pepper and mustard
  • add half the cheese and stir thru'
  • gently cook the roue sauce for 10 min
  • remove sauce from heat
  • in large saucepan bring water to boil
  • cook macaroni as per instructions on packet
  • drain pasta and add to sauce
  • place in a greased ovenproof dish
  • spread grated cheese on top and breadcrumbs if desired
  • bake in oven preheated to180 deg celc for 15 min
  • place under grill until cheese topping goes golden brown
  • serve immediately
  • nice accompanied with a green salad
