Danish Cheese Sauce Recipe
A delectable cheese sauce, mild and creamy, that goes well with pasta, vegetables, chicken ... very versatile!

Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 to 5 drops hot pepper sauce
  • Pinch nutmeg
  • 2 cups shredded Havarti cheese

Directions
  1. In a heavy saucepan, melt butter. Stir in flour and cook over low heat, stirring, for about 2 minutes until bubbly. Stir in milk and bring mixture to a low boil. Reduce heat and cook, stirring, about 5 minutes until sauce thickens. Season to taste with hot sauce and add nutmeg.
  2. Remove from heat and add cheese. Stir rapidly for about 1 minute until cheese melts and sauce is smooth.
  3. Makes about 3 cups.
