Ingredients

How to make it

  • rinse beans and place in 8 qt pot with enough water to cover. Bring water to a boil, and then turn off heat, cover and leave until beans are a little larger (about an hour)
  • Add enough water to fill pot about 3/4 full
  • Place on medium heat
  • Add veggies and seasoning
  • Bring to a boil
  • Add all meat and chicken broth
  • Cook until broth is somewhat creamy in appearance about 2 hours. Stir occasionally to assure beans do not stick to the pot, and add water and salt as needed.
  • Serve over steamed rice, or eat alone as a soup
  • The longer the soup cooks the creamier it gets.
  • You can also do this in a crock pot or slow cooker by adding all ingredients until the mixture is creamy.
  • *I made this last night, and it was a huge hit. The smell of it cooking brings me back to my grandmother's kitchen. You can freeze it for later, it keeps really well.
