New Orleans Red Beans And Rice

- 1lb of red beans/ or red kidney beans/ kidney beans shopping list
- smoked turkey sausage sliced medium to thin shopping list
- hot sausage(i use turkey) I slice then roll into medium balls. shopping list
- turkey wings(remove meat and cube) shopping list
- 1 can of chicken broth shopping list
- 1 onion shopping list
- 1 green pepper shopping list
- 2 cloves of garlic( can subsitute garlic powder about 2 tb) shopping list
- 2 stalks of celery( all vegetable should be chopped medium to small, don't worry if they look a little big, they'll cook down, and you should be able to see them when it's ready to serve) shopping list
- 2 ts paprika shopping list
- 2 tb parsley(I use fresh, but dried is fine) shopping list
- 2 tb of basil shopping list
- 4-6 bay leaves whole shopping list
- 1 1/2 black pepper shopping list
- salt to taste shopping list
- 2 tb mrs dash(i used adobe, no prob) shopping list
How to make it
- rinse beans and place in 8 qt pot with enough water to cover. Bring water to a boil, and then turn off heat, cover and leave until beans are a little larger (about an hour)
- Add enough water to fill pot about 3/4 full
- Place on medium heat
- Add veggies and seasoning
- Bring to a boil
- Add all meat and chicken broth
- Cook until broth is somewhat creamy in appearance about 2 hours. Stir occasionally to assure beans do not stick to the pot, and add water and salt as needed.
- Serve over steamed rice, or eat alone as a soup
- The longer the soup cooks the creamier it gets.
- You can also do this in a crock pot or slow cooker by adding all ingredients until the mixture is creamy.
- *I made this last night, and it was a huge hit. The smell of it cooking brings me back to my grandmother's kitchen. You can freeze it for later, it keeps really well.
