How to make it

  • Preheat oven 400.
  • In a medium to large bowl, combine the sugar, flour, soda, salt and cocoa.
  • In a small pot, boil the water and butter together and pour directly into the bowl containing the flour mixture.
  • Beat eggs and add to the chocolate batter along with the buttermilk, vanilla and cinnamon. Mix well.
  • Pour into a greased and floured 13x9 pan. Bake 20 minutes.
  • Frosting: Start the frosting shortly before the cake is done, because you will pour it directly over the cake.
  • In a medium saucepan bring to boil, sugar, butter, milk, cocoa, and a pinch of salt. Once the boil has started, boil for exactly 1 minute. Remove from heat and beat until thick. Stir in pecans.
  • When cake come out of the oven, punch holes on the top with a fork. Spread the frosting over the cake. Cut and serve.

    This is my very favorite chocolate cake. Mine goes together a little differently, but the ingredients are exactly the same, except I always leave the cinnamon out. You just cannot beat this recipe if you want good chocolate cake! Thanks!!
