Old-fashion Chewy Molasses Cookies Recipe

Old-Fashion Chewy Molasses Cookies Recipe
These cookies are so yummy. My grammy made them to hold us over until she had the time to make her shoo-fly pie. The should be stored in a tight container with a few slices of white bread to keep them moist.

Ingredients
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • sugar to roll them in

Directions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a mixing bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, butter, molasses, milk, eggs, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon and salt.
  3. Beat at low speed, scraping the sides of the bowl often, until it is well mixed. It takes about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Cover the bowl and refrigerate until the dough is firm. Ususally about 2 hours will do the trick.
  5. On a plate or in a shallow dish, add a layer of sugar.
  6. Shape dough into rounded tablespoons full and roll into the sugar.
  7. Place about 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the cookies are slightly firm to the touch.
  9. Makes about 4-4 1/2 dozen cookies.
  10. These are melt-in-your-mouth delights!!!
